Distance Day Team Recap - November 7th, 2025

November 13, 2025

This last Friday (November 7th) was Distance Day for our Regional, Multisport, and Age Group swimmers, and it took place on both sides of the valley. 6 of our swimmers made the trek down to Vernon to race the 800m Freestyle and come away with official times in both the 400 and 800. Meanwhile, in Summerland, a group of 12 completed the same event for unofficial times during practice.

IN VERNON:

Isla and Annabel started us off with great swims in the same heat! Isla improved her previous best by a whopping 57.60 seconds, while Annabel dropped 34.40 seconds for a fantastic time of 11:32.52. Madi also swam a super consistent race, dropping almost 10 seconds off her previous best time. Even more impressive is the fact that both Annabel and Madi swam the second 400 meters faster than they swam the first. Incredible pacing!

Rhys, Lore and Yaniv all swam the race for the first time ever! There were some goals achieved, others be chased more next time, and several really proud moments after serious pre-race nerves. 32 lengths is no small feat and to do that in race mode? Pretty impressive. One notable piece of this race included Yaniv’s underwaters, where he made it 6m off every wall! Impressive efforts all around!

IN SUMMERLAND:

A couple highlights from the practice runs include Elizabeth holding a great speed throughout, Magnolia, Carissa, Cameron and Koen completing it for the first time, and Tristan improving his previous time by over 20 seconds! It’s sometimes hard to push it all out at practice, but Coach Olivia reported lots of hard work, best times and big smiles!

This wasn’t a full meet, but it was awesome to see everyone step a little bit outside of their comfort zones and complete an event that might not be their first choice at other meets. We’ve now got a couple more weeks of training before a big group of us head to Kelowna for a 3-day meet with a lot of shorter races.

Keep up the great work everyone!
