ORca - past, present, future

Where we started

The Summerland ORCA Swim Club has been a competitive swim club since it was founded in 1990. ORCA is affiliated with SWIMMING/NATATION CANADA (SNC).  The club was set up to opperate as a non-profit sports body to promote aquatics in the community of Summerland, British Columbia.  It is governed by a constitution, which is available through the Board of Directors.  The goal of the club is to encourage each athlete to be the best that they can be by participating in the sport of competitive speed swimming.

where we are

While we have different swimmers, coaches, parents, and board members than we did back in 1990, we remain a Club focused on promoting aquatics in the community of Summerland. Investing in swimmers of all ages and abilities, from our 5-year-old Junior Orca Pod members to our competitive Provincial+ level swimmers, we as a team strive to meet each kid where they are at and support them to reach the goals and levels they aspire to. We aren't going to be perfect along the way, but our hope is that along with becoming fast and strong swimmers, each Orca member leaves their time at Orca healthy and having grown as a kind and respectful human as well.

where we're going

We currently have a young group of senior swimmers, meaning that 2030 will be right around the time when the majority of them are graduating. Our hope as a coaching team is that each and every one of the Orcas who swims into High School will stick with it, stay healthy, keep loving the sport, and have the opportunity to swim in University, if they so choose. We would love to be swimming in a new pool here in Summerland, and aim to continue being an affordable, safe, and thriving program that both teaches invaluable skills and provides incredible opportunities to the kids and youth of Summerland.
