Fernie Fox Meet - Team Travel

This year we have added a new event to the calendar - a Team Travel Meet in Fernie from April 17-19, 2026. Orca has not done many team travels in the past, and likely none in our current family's tenure. Both Coach Olivia and I, however, have great memories of these as athletes and have had many requests from the kids to add such an event to the calendar.

Why Fernie?  A few reasons... 1) Their April meet was one I traveled to from Alberta when I was a kid and was always one of my favorites for the atmosphere.  2) The competition level of this meet is similar to the February Salmon Arm one, meaning all of our kids in Regional, Multisport and Age Group can attend and have a blast!  3) It has a 10&Under category, some eliminator events, and a schedule that allows for a lot of team building throughout the weekend as well.  4) We have done the budgeting estimates that seam more affordable than, say, a meet on the Island, and that is even with our prospective host hotel having a waterslide, which I'm sure the kids will appreciate. :)

What does a Team Travel meet look like? More details under the “Team Travel” section, but in summary:

• This event will be open to all Regional, Multisport and Age Group athletes.
• Swimmers will travel as a team, meaning without the direct supervision of their parents.
• We will ask for a handful of parent chaperons to accompany, however chaperons will not be just in charge of their own swimmer(s).
• A flat fee will be charged for the event (estimate in “Team Travel” section), as costs will be split between all attendees (including hotel fees, most food, travel, etc.).
• Swimmers will be grouped into rooms and have very specific instructions on bed times, restrictions, ready times, food times, etc., but will also have the ability to demonstrate growth and independence in several areas.
• And parents, if you do not wish to chaperon, then you get a weekend where your kids compete and you don't have to sit in a sweaty pool the whole time! :)

Where do I sign up?  All you have to do is declare your swimmer(s) like normal! Feel free to reach out to me or put a note in your declaration if you have any specific questions. We will be in touch by the end of February with more confirmation on cost / deposit / final days to decide / etc., but the more of you who declare now, the more accurate those numbers will be!

⁃                Travel (Drop-off and Pick-up from Summerland Aquatic Center)

⁃                Accommodations

⁃                Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (snacks to be sent by families for allergy purposes)

⁃                Numbers based off of 15 swimmers
