NID Winter Divisionals Meet Recap - February 20-22, 2026

February 26, 2026

WOW!! That one word sums up this weekend of incredible racing by our Orca crew!! The 8-member team amassed just shy of 80% Personal Bests, 2 New Divisional Times, 3 New Provincial Times, 24 “A” Finals, and 9 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze). Both Orca Coaches were thrilled with the effort, grit, and excitement these kids left in the pool throughout the weekend. A brief recap of the weekend for each swimmer is below:

Emily: Hard work and relentlessness have paid off for Emily! Not only did she make “A” Finals in every one of her races, earning a spot on the podium in 5, but Emily came away from the weekend with her first 3 ever Provincial Qualifying times! It seemed like, from the very first race, nothing was going to get in her way this weekend. Representing Orca, and Summerland as a whole, Emily will be racing the 50 Breaststroke, 50 Butterfly, and 100 Breaststroke at Provincial Championships in Victoria from March 6-8th. Go Emily!

Madeleine: Although she had already bested the majority of her times between the recent Kelowna and Salmon Arm meets, Madi improved in both her 100 Butterfly and 200 IM again. In her 200 IM, Madi dropped below the elusive 3-min mark for the first time, a big goal of hers and a huge accomplishment! Way to go Madi!

Bea: While Bea hasn’t competed much this season, she still knows how to race! Joining the team primarily for the relays this weekend, Bea decided to swim two individual races as well, only to turn up with 2/2 personal bests. Not only that, but Bea also achieved her next two Age Group’s (15/16 and 17&Over) Divisional standards in the 50 Fly. Thanks for giving it your all, Bea!

Isla: Qualifying for “A” Finals in all but two of her swims, Isla brought home her first two divisional bronze medals (400 and 800 Freestyle) and 5 major best times. The largest time drop came in her 800 Freestyle, where she took off a whopping 30 seconds to come within striking distance of the 11-min mark. Your commitment to bettering your distance swimming is amazing, Isla! Keep it up!

Emerson: This was Emerson’s first Divisional Championships, and 3rd Regional meet overall, but that didn’t throw him off his game. In his first race of the weekend (50 Breaststroke), Emerson got a best time and qualified for “A” Finals in 7th place. That evening, though, Emerson took it to a whole other level as he dropped over 3.5 seconds, breaking the 40 second marker, and climbing the rankings to 3rd place and his first ever Divisional medal! We were so proud of you, Emerson, for your attitude and effort the whole weekend!

Yaniv: Qualifying for finals in every one of his events, Yaniv came away with all but one personal best, a silver medal in the 200 Butterfly, and was within a hair’s width (0.05 seconds) of adding a Provincial Qualifying time in his 50 Butterfly. While Yaniv just missed a couple of his big goals, we were proud of his attitude all weekend, as well as his determination to work through any missing pieces and come back even stronger next time!

Alexis: Each meet Lexi seems to gain more confidence in her swimming ability, and it is well deserved! After qualifying for this meet last month, Lexi worked hard to improve her Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Freestyle in preparation for her 4 allowed events. Not only did she get best times in 3 of the 4, but Lexi also improved by a massive 7 seconds in her 50 Butterfly alone (going 34.01) for another Divisional Qualifying time! Impressive!

Kendra: Kendra came to the pool each day with her well-known massive smile on her face, but when they said ‘take-your-marks’, all bets were off. She focused in and raced her heart out in every event, ending with 5/6 personal bests and a first sub-40 in the 50 Breaststroke… a season’s goal! Kendra’s strokes are improving on a daily basis, so watch out world!

Thanks for reading! What a weekend! We’re tired, proud, and already excited for the next one!
