Salmon Arm Swim Meet Recap:

This past weekend Orca had 7 swimmers competing down in Salmon Arm at their annual February regional meet. Check out a couple highlights for each swimmer below!

Addison – Competed in several big races over the weekend. In the prelim session, Addy lost her cap on the fourth length of her 200IM, but pushed through to finish the race without it, earning herself a spot in the Final! In the final, she took off a whopping 8.71 seconds. Way to go Addy!!

Ainsley – Had several impressive swims over the weekend, but they were highlighted with a convincing win in both the 50 and 100 Free finals, where her more-than-a-body-length lead grew with each stroke. Ainsley also came within 2 tenths of a second of her Provincial time in the 100 Free with a big best time. Super job Ainsley!

Madi – Swam hard in all of her races despite being out of training with a cold the previous week. Madi pushed herself to a comeback win in the 100 Breaststroke and came second in the Orca podium sweep of the 50 Breaststroke final as well. Great resiliency, Madi!

Bea – Bounced back from a false start DQ in her 50 Free prelims to place third in a gutsy 50 Back on Saturday, and snag third place in both the 50 Fly and 100 Back as well on Sunday. In the 100 Back both Bea and Adleigh swam 1:14s for the first time in their careers, which is super speedy! Proud of you, kiddo!

Isla – Had a number of notable swims on the weekend, but worth specific mention are the 100 Back and 400 Free, both on Sunday. Isla came back from a tough morning 100 Backstroke to sprint out of the gate and hold on to a first-place finish in a big best time of 1:26.16. She also raced the 400 Freestyle, dropping an impressive 13.41 seconds off her previous best time, despite losing track of how many lengths she’d done. Awesome work Isla!

Adleigh – Similar to Ainsley, Adleigh took first in her age group with commanding wins in both the 50 and 100 Free and added a silver in her 100 Backstroke with a 2-second drop to the 1:14 mentioned earlier. She picked some great goals for her races and is leaving this excited to chase down her provincial times in Penticton in two weeks. Keep it up, Adleigh!

Kendra – Despite having a tough DQ after the 100 Fly on Saturday and just missing first in the 100 Breaststroke final, Kendra bounced back with all best times the rest of the weekend, making finals in all three Sunday races and swimming a monster time of 42.51 in the 50 Breaststroke to lead the Orca podium sweep with Madi and Ainsley. Super excited to see even more at Divisionals in a couple weeks. Great job Kendra!

Next up: Divisionals in Penticton, February 21-23, followed by our In-House Jamboree here in Summerland on February 24th. Can’t wait!!
